COALESCE RESIDENCY

The Coalesce Residency is a month-long residency, designed to engage and challenge creators, and connect the Katarokwi-Kingston artist community. Artists are either randomly paired or grouped together as a collective to create new works collaboratively. The goal of the group/pairing is to create an incubator for innovation, skill sharing, experimentation, and network building.

Participating artists are given full access to the Modern Fuel ARC space to create their collaborative works. Artists are encouraged to bring their own materials, however, participants are also free to use what materials Modern Fuel has on hand, and our in-house New Media Workspace. A stipend of $100 will be provided to each artist to spend as they wish. Artists are free to work within any medium of their choosing.

Dates

April 1st - 30th, 2025

  • Commencement Date: April 1st

  • Residency: April 1st - 19th

  • Art Installation: April 20th - 21st

  • Exhibition: April 22nd - 26th

  • Closing Reception: April 26th

  • Deinstallation: April 27th - 30th

Eligibility Requirements

Please note that participating artists are expected to be in Kingston, as there is no remote participation for this residency. All participating artists must meet at Modern Fuel on the afternoon of April 1st for orientation and to be paired/grouped, but off-site work is allowed under the participant guidelines.

Artists participating in the residency must have an open mind to collaboration, be excited for the potential of creating in this collective environment, and cannot have any preconceived notions of what they want to create during this time. Projects will be mutually decided upon by paired/grouped artists when the residency commences. Artists will be randomly paired together, and must be prepared to step outside of their comfort level and create collaboratively with another artist across various media. Due to space constraints, a maximum of 3 pairs (6 artists) will be selected for the residency.

Participating artists will be invited to speak about their experiences during the Coalesce Residency at the Closing Reception.
