Volunteer at Modern Fuel

Our volunteers are integral to operations at Modern Fuel. We provide professional development opportunities for those looking to pursue a career in the arts. From helping with our install/deinstall periods, to being a spokesperson for Modern Fuel at our outreach events, we are able to provide diverse and exciting experiences for our volunteers. Volunteer positions are open to everyone.

Bingo Support

Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre partners with the Charitable Bingo & Gaming Initiative to raise funds for our programming. We are looking for individuals to volunteer and represent Modern Fuel, perform certain duties, and share information about our organisation to the guests at the Community Spirit Bingo Centre.

Gallery Preparation for Exhibitions

Our exhibitions run for seven-weeks with a two-week turn over period during which we need help preparing the gallery space for the next exhibitions including patching and painting the walls. Volunteers should be comfortable with physical labour and detail-oriented tasks.

Special Events

We host opening receptions and other events approximately every two months, at which we need volunteers to help with bar and food service, guest check-in, and photography. Volunteers for bar service must have valid Ontario Smart Serve. Photography volunteers should have some experience with digital photography.

Outreach and Fundraising Events

Modern Fuel regularly participates in city-wide cultural events, such as the Skeleton Park Arts Festival and Princess Street Promenade, as well as occasional public fundraising events. Volunteers should be comfortable speaking to individuals and groups about Modern Fuel, and spending several hours outdoors.

Interested applicants are invited to submit an online application with the button below. Applicants can select their areas of interest and we will contact you on a needs basis. Applicants can apply to volunteer for an ongoing, four-month, eight-month, or yearly term. All applicants who submit interest will be contacted.

Modern Fuel will provide orientation and related training for volunteers. No experience is necessary, this is a great opportunity to gain new skills and learn more about the inner workings of an artist-run centre. We look forward to hearing from you!
